The Opportunity

Hours of work: The position is part time (3 days per week), 12 month FTC, working 09:00 am – 5:30 pm

Salary: Up to £30,000 pro rata per annum depending on qualifications and experience

Experience: Minimum 3 years relevant experience required

Location: 4 More London Riverside, London, SE1 2AU

Reports to: Assistant Finance Manager

Overall Purpose of the role:

The primary role of the Assistant Accountant is: To support the Assistant Finance Manager in the smooth running of the finance department and to work collaboratively with the Finance team and the various departments within the Company.

The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for various financial accounting and administration tasks and will also have an important role in the implementation of our new accounting software.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creation and ownership of the monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Investigating and clearing old balance sheet transactions
  • Invoice & Expense processing
  • Preparing the monthly payroll journal and reconciliation
  • Preparing the monthly pension upload and reconciliation
  • Preparing the monthly prepayments and accruals
  • Preparing and submitting the quarterly VAT returns
  • Assisting with the monthly reporting packs to group
  • Monitoring actual costs Vs budget on a monthly basis
  • Involvement in the production of the yearly statutory accounts and supporting schedules for the purposes of the audit

Skills and Personal Qualities:

  • Part qualified accountant (not essential)
  • Experienced in the use of accounting software systems such as SAGE line 50
  • Capable of dealing calmly with enquiries from outside of the Finance department both in person and by telephone
  • Adaptable, hard-working and willing to work as part of a developing team
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office including the basic techniques of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Highly efficient and meticulous and showing a great deal of attention to detail
  • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure
  • Excellent inter-personal skills including the ability to communicate with non-financial staff who have different skillsets
  • Positive attitude, ability to work flexibly and committed team player
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with discretion at all times
